Miami Beach has been extremely popular since the 1920’s. Today it is considered to be a Resort, which is “World Renowned.” Starting out from Downtown Miami, cross the McArthur Causeway (US 41), turn right onto Alton Road. The first landmark will be the “South Pointe Park.” You will discover three miles of beautiful sandy beaches, along with surfers, swimmers and stunt-kite flyers. This is also the best spot to watch fishing and cruise ships coming and going out of the Port of Miami, which is the largest ship port in the world. Coming to the end of the park, turn right onto Biscayne Street. You will find the most famous Miami Restaurant, “Joe’s Stone Crab” est. 1931. Next, take Ocean Drive to 13th Street. This prominent square mile continues to 23rd Street and contains the very best example of Art Deco Architecture. View the sight of the classic Cordozo, and the Cleveland and Park Central Hotels. Turn left onto Collins Avenue and continue onto 5th Street, then to Washington Avenue. Turn right and head north to Espanola Way and the Lincoln Road Shopping District. Take a break and enjoy this ultra-trendy area for shopping and dining. Continuing on Washington Avenue, is five great points of interest, the Jackie Gleason Theater of Performing Arts, the Miami Beach City Hall, the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Visitor Information Center and the Miami Beach Garden and Conservatory which offers exotic native earth and air plants all flourishing under a 32 foot high dome. Next, turn right onto Park Avenue and visit the Bass Museum of Art which you will discover many modern American and European masters. Last, turn right onto 22nd Street and left onto Collins Avenue to visit the very famous Fontainebleau Hilton Resort. This 1,200-room resort with a tropical lagoon, health spa, sporting facilities and several restaurants and lounges, including the Club Tropigala, which offers Las Vegas-style entertainment. Continuing on Collins Avenue, turn right onto Arthur Godfrey Road, which leads back to the Julia Tuttle Causeway and the mainland.
