Located a couple miles north of
Daytona Beach is the beautiful area of Ormond Beach, which has the most stunning shores and attracts many surfers. The sand has an unusual reddish brown cast, which is a result of the wearing down of the coquina reefs. Many water activities are available, such as water skiing, wind surfing, parasailing, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing.
There are two state parks located right on the beach, and both offer an outstanding natural setting. The Bulow Creek State Park is centered around an 800-year-old oak tree, which withstood countless numbers of wars and fires. Walk through a hammock of trees, and you will see the ruins of the Bulows Plantation, now a historical site. The Tomoka State Park offers nature trails, camping and canoeing. Visit the Memorial Art Museum and Gardens to see native plants like the sago palm, bamboo and banana plants.
For arts and culture, go to the Jazz Matazz, a presentation of national and international musicians. This annual event takes place during the 4th of July holiday weekend.
