Lake Wales is known as one of the most terrific little towns in the Sunshine State, and is located just 60 miles southwest of Orlando. At 298 feet above sea level, it is one of Florida's highest points. Bok Tower Gardens is a must-see. Located atop Iron Mountain, the 205 foot tower stands majestically, surrounded by 130 acres of lush, breathtaking gardens. Because of its 57 bells, Bok Tower is also known as the singing tower. It was built by former Ladies' Home Journal editor Edward Bok, and is constructed out of pink and gray marble and Florida coquina stone. Another one of Lake Wales' attractions is Spook Hill, just off US27 and North Avenue. Park your car on the white line, release the brakes and watch your car roll uphill! There is no explanation. The best place for lodging and dining is the famous Chalet Suzanne Inn. Set on 70 acres, this country resort provides guests with everything from a landing strip to a swimming pool. The dining rooms are exquisite, the entrees are fabulous and the desserts are luscious. Guidebooks rate the Chalet four stars. So come to Lake Wales, you won't regret it!
