As long as humans have existed, they have chosen to come to this Gulf Coast paradise. Venice and its surrounding areas are rich in history and important archaeological sites. Located on the south end of Sarasota, Venice is known as the “Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World.”

Outdoor Paradise

In August, there is an annual Sharks Tooth Festival, which offers plenty of food, games and tooth hunting. Venice provides one of the finest systems of public beaches. Whether your preference is an undeveloped beach in its natural state, or a developed beach with all of the amenities, the choice is yours. At the west end of Venice Avenue, you will find Venice Beach.

If you enjoy diving in your leisure time, a reef containing fossilized material is located a quarter mile offshore, making it a favorite spot for divers. There are meticulously maintained parks with tropical flowers, foliage, palms and pines, where people can stroll or rest on benches to watch children play. Brohard Beach Park has a 740-foot fishing pier for public use. Activities available are camping, swimming, diving, snorkeling, surfing, a jetty, volleyball and hiking.

Start your day on one of Venice's many picturesque golf courses. The area is proud to offer some of the finest courses, with rolling terrains and attractive fairways that any golfer will find challenging. There are four public courses, and four private courses.

The dining at the Crow’s Nest Marine Restaurant is exceptional. The entrees are exquisitely prepared and the ambiance is of a lovely nautical décor. For some live music and nightlife, head to Sharky’s at the Pier. The specialty of the house is the deck delight, and two is the limit.

For accommodations near the beach, choose from the Best Western Sandbar Resort, or stay at the Beach Resort, both are considered above average. For an alternative, head three miles west to an array of many chain motels. Venice will offer you a lovely vacation and a yearning to return. So come visit us.
