Tallahassee is located in Leon County, 163 miles west of Jacksonville, 191 miles east of Pensacola and 250 miles northwest of Orlando.
As Florida’s state capitol, Tallahassee has a tremendous amount to offer. The history of the Old South awaits you here. You will find lovely restored 19th century homes and buildings, including the 1845 old capitol building, centered between towering pines and sprawling live oak trees.
Tradition and history are very important here. You will want to tour the new capitol building, which towers 22 stories over downtown. The $43 million skyscraper was built in 1977. From March to May, state legislators meet here. Guided tours are given every hour.
There is a free trolley service to get you around to all the important points of interest, and you can get on and off at any point. The trolley runs Monday thru Friday. There is also a Taltran bus service available.
A tour of the Governor’s Mansion is a sight to behold, with all of its 18th and 19th century antiques and collectibles. All are surrounded with landscaped lawns and giant magnolia trees.

Tallahassee has over six museums, 14 art galleries, and 13 nearby attractions, which include nature and science centers, historical sites and parks. There are two nearby freshwater beaches, which provide activities such as swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, and picnicking.

Florida State University and Florida A & M University bring many spectators to Tallahassee during football season. Both universities also have seasonal basketball, baseball, tennis and track.
